COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference on Monday released the final standings of the 2021-22 RMAC All-Sports Cup competition, a listing that has Western Colorado extending to 15 years a top-10 streak with its sixth-place finish after the current sports seasons.
Mountaineer athletics accrued 649.5 points across the core sports, men’s wildcard and women’s wildcard groupings.
It’s co-championship in football garnered the highest point total (95, core sports) for Western, followed by 81 points from cross country within the men’s wildcard group and indoor track and field’s 77 points in the women’s wildcard group.
Also factoring into the scoring for the Mountaineers were volleyball (64.5), women’s basketball (55) and men’s basketball (10) from the core sports; women’s cross country (74) and outdoor track and field (64) in the women’s wild card group; and men’s outdoor track and field (69) and wrestling (60) from the men’s wildcard sports.
Colorado School of Mines earned the All-Sports trophy with 927 points, followed by runner-up Colorado Mesa University with 913 points.
Since finishing in 11th place after the 2005-06 season, Western has run off 15 consecutive top-10 finishes within the standings. It’s average overall finish during that time span is 6.733, with highs of fifth place in 2008-09 and in 2019-20 and a low of ninth place in 2017-18. Western’s best finish came in 1993 with a second-place finish in the final standings.
